Kiss the Bride Workshop

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend an amazing workshop sponsored by Kiss the Bride. It was my first ever photography workshop and I LOVED it and can’t wait to attend more. I actually taught a mini-workshop on making an impact with visual design to the ladies in attendance, and a few of the other photogs made presentations on fashion photography, album design, packaging, etc. The guest speaker was the delightful Stacey Bode who made us all feel really comfortable and inspired! She was so sweet and down to earth! I came away from the workshop really energized and full of ideas. Also very full/happy from our amazing lunch at Relish. Thanks for an amazing day ladies!

Our sassy pose! Woop woop! By the way, I am freakishly tall…!

Here we are with Stacey! Cheeese!

Poor April is being shot by so many gals!

Whenever I see this many photographers in one place, I almost always shout “look! it’s the shooting squad!”

Some of the shots I did from this cool covered bridge nearby. I couldn’t resist!

My 100th Blog Post!

As I sit here and begin typing out my 100th blog post, I am amazed, thankful, and so happy. When I first truly started my photography business–circa summertime 2009–I was really not sure what would happen. It was a huge leap of faith to leave my 9-5 job. After leaving, I did a few photography jobs on the side but was too intimidated by the idea of running my own business to truly, fully pursue it. But the jobs kept falling into my lap and I fell deeper in love with the idea of being a photographer. I decided to be brave and try it, and I’m so glad I did. I am elated by how my business has grown and is growing! I can’t believe I do this full time and I have to thank God for his amazing Grace and Love. I look back over my work and feel such amazement! Look at all the lives I’ve been allowed into, look at all the places I’ve gone! I love my job and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me. Thank you to all my clients for trusting me and growing with me. I couldn’t be successful without all the folks who have supported me in this. So thank you again. 100 e-hugs to everyone!

My editing methods

I get asked a lot (mostly by photographer friends!) about how much editing I do to my photos. I used to just color correct for warmth and tone and make a few black and whites and that was that–but with my recent purchase of Adobe Lightroom, I’ve really stepped into a new phase of editing. I still try to keep the photos relatively “unedited” looking because I really love natural looking photographs, but Lightroom has such cool features and presets that allow for more creativity! I love subtle edits and so Lightroom is perfect for me. I thought I’d share a straight-out-of-camera shot with my final edit to show my readers a typical edit. So to answer the question of how much editing I do, I think I’ll go with “just enough!”:-)
